Dr. James Lee, Ph.D., Venture Partner
James has been with WI Harper since the very beginning. He is the DivX Ambassador and Advisory Board Member for DivX Inc, as well as Special Advisor for CyberLink and SunPlus. He is also serving as Independent Supervisor at the Board of Directors of E-ton Solar Tech. Before joining WI Harper, James was spearheading the Pacific Century CyberLabs, the incubation arm of PCCW within CyberWorks Ventures. Before PCCW, he worked in Singapore as Special Advisor to Singapore National Science & Technology Board, Strategic Director for national IT research institute Kent Ridge Digital Labs. He was appointed as Adjunct Associate Professor at the Center for Management of Innovation and Technopreneurship and School of Computing, National University of Singapore as well as Board of Director for Bio-Informatics Center. James played an instrumental role in the Science & Technology R&D and Technopreneurship for Singapore. The Competitive Intelligence Group he started and managed in Singapore has won Overall Worldwide Excellence Award from the prestigious Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals in 2000.
Before Singapore, James worked for Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan, as its Founding Director of Internet Technology Division. In Taiwan, James initiated and managed many world class Internet pioneering R&D, application and promotion programs, including Taiwan EC Pilot, Internet World Exposition, Java Alliance, etc. Before Taiwan, James worked for many high tech companies in the US, e.g., SAS Institute, Silicon Graphics and GO Corporation. He has more than 10 patents granted / pending in many countries. He authored the first Chinese book on microcomputer in the early 70's, and the first Chinese book on e-Commerce / Digital Money in 1996. James has been playing angel roles in many high tech startups; he has served various advisory roles for high tech companies, including AboveNet, DivX Inc, e21Corp, Sina, SunPlus, Yam Digital, Zero2IPO, ChinaLabs, Wretch, muvee, i-partment, AtlasPost, DreamWindows, etc. In September 2000, James was awarded as one of the 100 Most Influential People to Global Chinese New Economy.
James Lee is also Vice Chairman of ChinaLabs, a leading Think Tank and Incubator in China.
