David brings to WI Harper more than 15 years of life sciences and senior executive experience in pharmacogenomics, molecular diagnostics, medical device, and diagnostic imaging. Dr. David Wang is currently responsible for investment activities in life sciences and healthcare areas. Before joining WI Harper, David served as the Head of Business Development in molecular medicine at Siemens Medical Solutions, where he directed corporate strategy, new businesses, and investments in molecular diagnostics and molecular imaging. Previously, David was co-founder and Executive Vice President at First Genetic Trust, responsible for strategy, technology development, operations and research. During his tenures at Motorola Life Sciences and Bristol-Myers Squibb,David was Chairman of The SNP Consortium Scientific Management Committee where he was responsible for scientific strategy and management of the consortium. The SNP Consortium is the first group of its kind formed by pharmaceutical and technology industries as well as academia and charities.
David published numerous articles on genetics when he was at Whitehead/MIT Center for Genome Research. His 1998 article in Science, "Large-scale identification, mapping and genotyping of single nucleotide polymorphisms in the human genome," was the most cited paper in 1999, and was selected by Science along with others as one of the nine discoveries that transforms our ideas about the natural world and also offers potential benefits to society in 1998. David received his MD from Beijing Medical University with outstanding rank. He earned his doctorate in Developmental Biology from California Institute of Technology.
